As of August 8, 2004, there have been 930 Americans soldiers killed since we started this war. The number of casualites averages out to approximately 50 per month. So far this month, 18 have died. Logically, the total American casualty count will reach one thousand by the end of August. Add the wounded, the other alliance forces and the civilian dead? I am too sick for the counting.
Have you read the novel, The Dead Zone by Stephen King?
In the book, the protagonist -Johnny Smith- recovers from a seven-year coma with a gift for prophecy. Any time he touches another person, he can see their future. During the coarse of the story Smith shakes hands with a politician named Greg Stillson. In Smith's resulting vision he sees Stillson in the Oval Office, gone mad and preparing to bring on a nuclear holocaust.
In order to prevent the coming atrocity, Smith brings a gun to a Stillson speech. As Smith raises his gun to kill the man, Stillson grabs and shields himself with a baby, thus ending his political future.
George W Bush had his own Greg Stillson moment at Booker Elementary School on September 11, 2001. This trained pilot knew before he entered the school that the first plane had hit the World Trade Center. Instead of taking a few moments to find out the particulars of the crash, Bush chose to enter a room full of children. As he enjoyed the book My Pet Goat with the kids, his chief of staff whispered in his ear "America's under attack".
Did Bush excuse himself and proceed to handle the situation as a President should? No. Bush stayed in an elementary school full of children and stared into space for almost ten minutes.
Greg Stillson's got nothing on Dubya.
Okay. I'm gonna try this comment thing. My post for today: BUSH SUCKS! Leave your comments below
According to the Boston Globe, the name of the analyst recently accused of spying for the Israelis is Larry Franklin. In June 2003, the Pentagon Office of Special Plans sent Franklin to Paris to meet -in secret- with Manucher Ghorbanifar. At the time, the US was trying to broker a deal with Iran for the tunover of five al-Qaeda operatives in exchange for dropping US support for the Mujahadeen Khalq. The Mujahdeen is an Iraq-based group dedicated to the overthrow of Iran. Apparently, the Office of Special Plans wanted to keep alive it's relationship with the Mujahadeen, al-Queada operatives be damned. Manucher Ghorbanifar is a familiar name. This former arms dealer was the guy who supposedly gave Olivier North the idea to funnel money (made from sales of US arms to Iran) to fund the Contras. You remember Iran-Contra, don't you? Dubya's daddy sure does.
Here's hoping all the dissenters do their job peacefully and without fail.
