What a night for the cat to throw up on my satellite box! I wanted to watch the Cheney/Edwards SMACKDOWN on C-SPAN but not tonight, dammit. So anyways, remember how in the debate, Cheney told the American public to visit FACTCHECK.COM so they could read the truth about the dealings of Halliburton? He probably thought that made him look cool to all the bloggers and geeks. There's only one problem. FACTCHECK.COM is a Pay Per Click Search engine. Cheney meant to direct viewers to FACTCHECK.ORG. FACTCHECK.ORG is a legitimate site run by the Annenberg Public Policy Center. The place is similar to Snopes or The Straight Dope. Here's the kicker. Whoever owns FACTCHECK.COM must not like the Bush/Cheney adminstration very much. This domain owner could have made huge amounts of money from free publicity.Instead, he/she decided to redirect people that came to the site via Cheney's blunder. Now, when you go there, you're redirected to GEORGESOROS.COM. Silly Dick
"Superman did not become Superman, Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he is Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red S is the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears, the glasses the business suit, that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, unsure of himself... he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race..."
Christopher Reeve
CNN provides us with version three of Edwards quote in Iowa: Edwards said Reeve, who died Sunday, "was a powerful voice for the need to do stem cell research and change the lives of people like him. "If we do the work that we can do in this country, the work that we will do when John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve will get up out of that wheelchair and walk again," Edwards said. So which quote is the exact quote? I gotta find me a video of this
"We will do stem cell research," he vowed. "We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other debilitating diseases. America just lost a great champion for this cause in Christopher Reeve. People like Chris Reeve will get out of their wheelchairs and walk again with stem cell research." Edwards Stem Cell Vision: 'We will stop juvenile diabetes, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and other debilitating diseases... When John Kerry is president, people like Christopher Reeve are going get up out of that wheelchair and walk again.' Edwards made the unprecedented campaign promises during 30-minute speech at Newton High School gym in Newton, Iowa... Drudge version of the quote. Notice the subtle but effective difference?
I don't think Jenna looks like a monkey but apparently the King of headline manipulation does. How mean.
"With your help on Nov. 2, the people of America will reject the politics of fear, and vote for an agenda of hope and opportunity and security for all Americans." George W Bush - October 19, 2004 Yes. We will Get packing, motherfucker. You're going back to the ranch.
How does a Canadian get 2400 warheads into the state of New Mexico? It helps to buy from Halliburton. According to the Associated Press, the owner of a counter-terrorism training facility is suing Halliburton for selling illegal warheads to him in 1994. Canadian, David Hudak bought a ranch in Roswell New Mexico and opened a company called High Energy Access Tools or HEAT. HEAT was a subsidiary of Haduk's Canadian company, International Hydro Cut Technologies. Hydro Cut is described in this piece from CTV: "For the past 15 years Hydro Cut has specialized in counter-terrorism products and training. Their biggest claim to fame is what's called a breaching frame. "It would blow a man-sized entrance into the room. And so it has the element of surprise, which is critical in hostage rescue situations," says his (Hudak's) wife." On August 14, 2002 the US Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms raided Hudak's New Mexico property and discovered an estimated $83 million worth of weapons including approximately 2400 warheads. Hudak's Visa had also expired and he was charged as 'an alien in posession of an illegal firearm'. At first Hudak denied that the warheads were indeed warheads. The CTV article quotes Hudak: "They are not in fact a warhead, and they certainly are not missiles or missile-assemblies... They are an explosive. They are an energetic material. They were shipped as such, stored as such and had in the past been utilized as such. But they are not warheads. If they were, they would be on the complete SMAW [Shoulder Mounted Assault Weapon] assembly in the U.S. government's inventory somewhere. They would not be in a commercial company and reported being used as a demolition product on demolition jobs." In another article from the Alburquerque Tribune: "Hudak says Halliburton Corp. of Houston classified the warheads as demolition charges and offered them to Hudak's commercial demolition company at prices that could not be refused - $1.34 per warhead. "We were offered 2,500 or 3,000 of these things along with the other stuff we were buying. We said, hey, for a buck apiece? Sure, why not?" Hudak recalled." Hudak remained in jail for 17 months and was eventually aquitted of the charges against him. Curiously, the original Judge for Hudak's case -The Honorable John Edwards Conway- resigned from the proceedings after advising Hudak to bargain for a plea. Now Hudak is a free man but his business and reputation are in tatters. Hudak is suing Halliburton, Jet Research Center and Accurate Arms Co.. Halliburton sold him the arms on the same day their subsidiary Jet Research Center was sold to Accurate Arms. Hudak says that he was defrauded (by Jet Research) into believing he was buying legal explosives for his demolition business. The warheads (supposedly bunker busters) are reported to have been property of both the US and NATO. Hudak states in the Alburquerque Tribune: "There were 6,000 of these things (warheads) that were disposed of," Hudak said. "We bought less than a third of them. The other two-thirds of them went to numerous other companies doing numerous other commercial demolition projects."
