As you might have read, I found an odd domain that was sharing the same server as Presidential re-election site WWW.GEORGEWBUSH.COM. The domain in question: WWW.HOTLESBIANSHEEPACTION.COM. I found it by performing a reverse IP lookup at WHOIS.SC. An IP lookup will tell you what domains share the same Internet Protocol or IP number. In theory, when domains share the same IP number, it means they are all hosted on the same webserver. At the time of my January post, WWW.GEORGEWBUSH.COM shared the same IP number as these domains: WWW.HOTLESBIANSHEEPACTION.COM WWW.JOHNKERREY.ORG WWW.SAUDIS.NET WWW.WARISBAD.INFO Mind you, a supposed porn domain sharing a server with a decidedly non-porn domain is rather common. What struck me as curious was that HOTLESBIANSHEEPACTION redirected to the main site for the Republican National Committee. Even stranger, days after my January posting, all five sites were moved and were sharing an IP with all the sites from the RNC server. A week or so later, the five domains were back on a separate IP. I tracked down the guy who owns HOTLESBIANSHEEPACTION. It wasn't hard to do and if you read my January post, you can figure out how I did it. I emailed the guy and wrote: "Did you know that your domain http://www.hotlesbiansheepaction.com is sharing a server with the domain http://www.georgwbush.com ?" Here's his reply: "It isn't, actually. Long story: For years, whenever I needed to say a generic porn site name, I'd always say "hotlesbiansheepaction.com". I'd usually follow this up with "which still is not registered". One day, one of my friends said, "Well, why don't you register it", so I did. For a while I just sat on it, and then when giving out e-mail addresses to friends on one of my machines, I'd offer them the option of having a @hotlesbiansheepaction.com address. At some point I got bored and decided that www.hotlesbiansheepaction.com should point somewhere. So I've set up www.hotlesbiansheepaction.com to be a CNAME to various sites at random, essentially saying "this address is actually a pointer for some other address". A while back it pointed to the Christian Coalition, and every so often I change it to point to some other worthwhile site, usually when I've got nothing else better to do. I find it highly amusing that somewhere, the Republican National Committee is probably paying some poor schmoe to analyse the traffic to their site, and that guy probably runs across the phrase hotlesbiansheepaction on a random basis.... Hope this answers your question." He explained it but to make sure, I asked a friend of mine -who owns a hosting company- to determine whether or not I was being fed a line of crap. Sure enough, practically anyone can point their domain to any Domain Name Server (DNS) that they want via the CNAME option. I sort of knew this already but I wasn't sure how it worked, Now I do. I'm a little sad there was no drama but It's okay. I'll live with it. There's a much better drama going on right now, due to the actions of some diligent bloggers and their WHOIS research. Next up: Jeff Gannon.
In my day job, I'm paid to write articles. I cover news and information pertinent to my industry. I've been employed as a journalist for over three years. In that time I've written well over three hundred articles. Talon News has an Alexa ranking of 640,000. The site I write for has an Alexa ranking of 54,966. In theory, I'm more than qualified to get a White House daily press pass but I won't hold my breath.
I write for the Internet porn industry.
I don't write dirty stories. I don't write fake bios or newsletters where I'm pretend I'm some 19 year old babe who's just thrilled to have guys spooge in her face. I write about industry trends and happenings. I write about new and present technologies. I write about legislation important to those in my field. I am an adult webmaster but that's not how I make my living...anymore.
This is me:
Before I got my sweet gig as an author I took pictures of myself to use as content on my pages. Notice how you can't see my face? Notice how the pic is fuzzy? That was done on purpose. I needed content but I didn't want the whole world to see my face on a porn page. I used the images to promote sponsor programs as an affiliate. I invented the persona of a horny housewife who posted dirty pics on the web while my husband was away at work. I used the content to make pages where I sold memberships to paysites in the Mature/MILF niche. I'm not married and never have been. My porn name is not my real name. Everything about my pages and my photos were illusion, except for the very real membership fees I hoped my surfers would purchase.
I identify with Jeff Gannon/Jim Guckert. When I read about him on AmericaBlog, I felt a touch of empathy. His exposure is the stuff of my nightmares. My friends and family know what I do for a living but everyone else thinks I'm technical writer, which I am, technically.
While the blogosphere is going nuts over Guckert's possible connections to prostitution and the gay lifestyle, I am exploring the story of Jeff through the eyes of a web pornographer. I don't know if he's a hooker. I don't know if he's gay. There is one thing I do know for a fact. James Guckert is an adult webmaster.
How do I know this? When examining the webpages associated with Gannon, the URL to one of them was my first clue:
http://malecorps.com/x/usmcpt
In our business, we call that an affiliate link. It's the kind of link a sponsor issues to a webmaster so that when that webmaster makes a sale, the sponsor pays out a commission. We also call them referrer IDs. Mind you, that page is dead. The only way to see it is to type it into the Wayback Machine. When you do, you'll come across my second clue:
See the button that reads: WEBMASTERS? Did you click that link? I did. I went even further. I went to the site in question, Male Corps®. I found the person in charge of the Male Corps® affiliate program and asked him about Jim/Jeff. Here's what I wrote:
Dear Bruce,
I am an adult webmaster with a weblog about the porn industry. I found you through your domain, malecorps.com.
As you probably know, the Internet is buzzing about Jeff Gannon. Many say he was an escort. I have a different theory. I believe he was either an adult webmaster who used his own images for content or he is content. In all the fuss over this brouhaha, I think your site, malecorps.com is being made to look as if it belonged to Gannon.
I was wondering if you had any information about Jeff Gannon/James Guckert that I could put in my blog?
I appreciate your time.
love,
Bruce and I exchanged a few emails. He wasn't even aware that Jim's USMCPT bio had been plastered all over the Internet, much less US broadcast television. That's understandable because Bruce is in Canada. Male Corps® is based in Canada. Those kind of profile pages aren't even part of the Male Corps® program anyomore. In fact, they stopped accepting affiliates just this month.
Here's is the official Male Corps® response in regards their former affiliate Jeff Gannon:
A few years ago, www.MaleCorps.com provided individuals and affiliates with the option to have their own home page on the site for marketing purposes. Potential members would see each individual/affiliate's personal page and subscribe to see their photos. The revenue would then be shared between the affiliate and www.MaleCorps.com. This is the full extent of the relationship between www.MaleCorps.com and Jeff Gannon. All his photos were removed from the site about two years ago.
For the past few years, many steps were taken to avoid such occurrences, including the removal of all personal web pages, classifieds and listings from www.MaleCorps.com, as well as the cancellation of the affiliate program in order to keep a better control over the Male Corps trademarks and copyrighted information. As it stands, the site solely provides erotic photos and videos of models on their own, not involving any sexual activity, as well as links to third party providers. It is also noteworthy that the Male Corps web site has never been an escort service.
Bruce also told me that he and his associates are horrified with the possibility that an ex-Marine might be responsible for leaking a classified CIA Memo to the public.
He also wants me to tell you that Male Corps® might be for sale.
It appears I won an award from the fine folks at the Political Site of the Day Blog.
Thanks :)
Sorry for the downtime. Thank Bob I don't keep a database on my server. |
Say hello to James W. McCord Jr. They say the devil is in the details and nobody knows that better than old Jim. Frank Wills was a security guard for the Watergate Hotel. In the early morning hours of June 17, 1972, Wills was making his rounds when he noticed that a piece of duct tape had been placed over the locking mechanism of one of the building's entry doors. Wills figured some maintenance men had forgotten to remove the tape and tore it off. He came back later and saw the door lock was covered with a fresh piece of tape. Frank Wills called the cops. When the Washington DC Poilice arrived, they soon found some men messing with survelliance equipment in the offices of one of the Watergate's tenants: The Democratic National Headquarters. The men (Bernard L. Barker, Eugenio Martinez, Frank A. Sturgis, Virgilio R. Gonzales and James McCord) were arrested on site. E. Howard Hunt and G. Gordon Liddy had fled the scene but were arrested later. While all of DC giggled at the ineptitude of the Watergate break-in team, Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein couldn't get past one, nagging detail. James McCord was the security director for the Committee for the Reelection of the President (CREEP). McCord and the other Watergate burglers went to trial in the court of Judge "Maximum John" Sirica. Sirica got his nickname because he was known for giving out harsh sentences. On January 30, 1973, McCord and friends were found guilty and convicted of conspiracy, burglary and wiretapping. Judge Sirica was angered because the men would not name names and told them he would lessen their sentences (30 years) if they came forth with information about who had hired them and why. On March 23, 1973, Sirica entered his office only to find McCord sitting there with a letter in hand. Thinking the letter might contain payola, Sirica ordered a probation officer to take the missive to his courtroom. There, Sirica read the letter aloud from the bench. McCord's letter stated that the Watergate burglary was an operation ordered by former Secretary of State John Mitchell and White House counsel John Dean. McCord also stated that he was ordered to plead guilty and clam up by Dean and Mitchell and was promised compensation for his act via payments from a slush fund managed by Mitchell. After Watergate, McCord went on to be an athletic booster, run an illegal gambling ring and become owner of a private security consulting firm. He wrote a book published in 1974, titled: "A Piece of Tape: The Watergate Story: Fact and Fiction". McCord's Present Day Counterpart: Jeff Gannon A.K.A. James Guckert
