If you would like to help the victims of hurricane Katrina, there are several good links posted in this thread at Democratic Underground.

DirectNIC is a domain registry that caters to adult webmasters. The workers/owners at DirectNIC are currently holed up in their 27-story office building in New Orleans, LA. They are posting a live blog as well as pictures and webcam imagery of their experience. Go here to read the blog. Sorry, no porn.

Here Lies Vera
September 4, 2005 05:32

SOURCE: San Francisco Chronicle WRITER: Anna Badkhen PHOTO: Michael Macor

New Orleans -- Neighbors buried Vera Smith on top of the concrete sidewalk at the edge of the Garden District on Saturday in a crude grave they made of soil and bricks they had unearthed from a little park nearby...

...Unwilling to tolerate the indignity of her abandonment, Smith's neighbors decided to bury her themselves Saturday, joining throngs of New Orleans residents who are simply taking charge of their own incomprehensible problems.

"Let the country see this," wept Maggie McEleney, who wore a respirator pushed up on her forehead as she freed elliptical bricks from an overgrown rock garden and arranged them to frame the grave...

...On the tarp, Vera's neighbors had written a dedication of sorts in thick black letters, large enough for rescue helicopters roaring overhead to see the words.

It read:

"Here lies Vera. God help us."

God help us indeed.

Brown Out
September 9, 2005 12:15

From ABC News:

Under Scrutiny, Mike Brown to Leave Post

Sept. 9, 2005 - Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown, under criticism due to his management of Hurricane Katrina as well as reported discrepancies on his resume, is expected to be out as head of the agency very soon, informed sources have told ABC News.

Brown had virtually no experience with emergency management when he was appointed to the position by President Bush two years ago...

Q: What do you call a horse lawyer, fired for gross incompetence?

A: A good start

|

CORRECTION: Brown not so much FIRED but relieved of Katrina oversight. Not good enough but typical of this blameless administration.

The Bowels on the Bush go Round and Round...

Responsibility may not come easy to him but at least we know his bodily functions are okay:

The Yahoo/REUTERS/Rick Wilking caption states:

U.S. President George W. Bush writes a note to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice during a Security Council meeting at the 2005 World Summit and 60th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York September 14, 2005. World leaders are exploring ways to revitalize the United Nations at a summit on Wednesday but their blueprint falls short of Secretary-General Kofi Annan's vision of freedom from want, persecution and war.

The Auto De Fe of the Blogslut

Artist and bloggerNeil Shakespeare wrote an entry about me. I had been wanting to blog about it because it was a lovely thing to do but unfortunately, it happened just before Katrina. It simply didn't feel right bragging on myself. Granted, people are still dying and our President still sucks but there are some brave folks protesting against him in Washington DC. today.

The best part of Neil's Blog entry is this graphic he created for me:

You Rock, Neil.

Dear Tom,

Remember when I sent you that rope?

I know. I didn't send you the real thing but if that mean Ronnie Earle manages to get you convicted and you need another way out, I'll be more than happy to send you a whole cord.

Who knows? Maybe if Chris Bell wins as Governor of Texas, he'll give you a gap-toothed pardon!
