This is Not America
July 4, 2006 13:55

Today is the 230th anniversary of America's Independence. While the Founding Fathers are spinning in their graves at the actions of this current un-American administration, I thought I'd return you to another time when another criminal was US. President. Ironically, Ronald Reagan's re-election campaign tried to use Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the USA" as its official theme song. Had they actually listened to the lyrics or watched the video, they would have realized that the Boss' song was a condemnation of Reaganomics, the Vietnam war and the atricious treatment by of its veterans.

As a bonus, I've also included You Tubes of "Road to Nowhere" by the Talking Heads and "Talking Out the side of Yo Neck" by Cameo.

Happy Birthday Dissenters! When you stand up against tyranny and repression, you're in damned fine company:

Children

Jesus' General, Sadly, No!, Eschaton, The Poorman, Balloon Juice and The Liberal Avenger have let slip the dogs of war.

They play a child's game. They toy with doomsday weapons and nuclear arms. All the while they never learned to mind their surroundings. For there is one force that trumps all the machinations of man and that is the force of nature. I alone, have the power to call forth the most devastating and destructive video. I alone yield the true weapon. I - a mere Blogslut - have called forth the lightning:

EDIT: Post Title Changed because Balloon Juice had it first.

The Never Ending War
July 10, 2006 17:26

The full-length film is the most frightening piece of Cinema ever created. It's concentrated evil and could destroy not just the blogosphere but perhaps the Universe.

Therefore, I will show my merciful side and aim this small selection directly at my spanky, new enemy:

White Punks on Dope
July 11, 2006 14:13

Paul Holcomb of Boldheaded.com has created a hell of a techno remix, using the words of "Internet expert", Senator Ted Stevens (R- Bridge to Nowhere).

It took me about an hour to download the mp3 from the Boldheaded site, which means that his servers are overwhelmed with geeks. I took the liberty to download the file, compress it a bit and post it here. Enjoy.

BONUS: Here's a YouTube of Fee Waybill and The Tubes, performing "White Punks on Dope"

Monday Morning Nomi
July 17, 2006 05:31

Dammit

When I joined the great VMD battle of early July '06, I never expected that I would be a victim of fallout. I launched the Nomi but I'm the one that can't. stop. thinking. about. Klaus.

I forgot just how good he was and how much work he put out before he died. Tiny Tim was a smirky falsetto faker. Klaus was a real, live countertenor and well, a frigging genius.

I know the Middle East is on fire. I know that Video wars are stupid and I should be blogging about important things. But today...for a few minutes, take a moment and give this YouTube a watch. If it's any consolation, it's erotic as hell:

World Destruction Thursday
July 20, 2006 06:28

When I was a young woman, I used to worry about "The Rapture". Back when I believed that crap, I had my false prophet all picked out. His name was Jerry Falwell.

By the time 1984 came around, I had become an agnostic. I no longer believed in the Rapture or the end times. That didn't stop me from thinking Jerry Falwell was a false prophet. It didn't stop me from thinking Ronald Reagan was a reasonable facsimile of the anti-Christ. My disbelief of organized religion didn't quell my fears that we humans would bring about our own destruction.

For all you folk out there fearing the Rapture or WWIII or whatever...I can see your point. Times are bad today. Very bad. I still have hope that humanity will stop this madness.

In the meantime, here's a little something from 1984 - starring John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa:

Loose Shoes
July 20, 2006 18:41

"I'll tell you what the coloreds want. It's three things: first, a tight pussy; second, loose shoes; and third, a warm place to shit." - US Secretary of Agriculture Earl Butz 1976

President George W. Bush spoke before the N.A.A.C.P. today. His first time after he had refused the invitation five years straight. This is an election year and the Republicans aren't polling too well amongst black voters. Coincidence?

You can watch a re-play of the speech at C-SPAN. At approximately 32 minutes into the speech you'll get to see some patriots - the press calls them "hecklers" - speaking truth to power. Overall, it was damned chilly in that room.

Here's are some photos. courtesy of Yahoo/AP:

As for my opinion of Dubya and the black community? I'll defer to Kanye West:

This is the Hand

I just can't seem bring myself to comment on the horror. If you want a learned perspective, visit Juan Cole.

At the moment, art and music are the only things that make sense to me. At the moment, all I can hear is Laurie Anderson:
